Seed
The Nelson journey starts of course with the seed quality, which is of critical importance, as is the correct land preparation- both vital when producing a high quality, high yielding crop.
Our aim is to select the very best available seed for the desired variety mix, giving our producers the confidence they need to grow with us.
Whether the seed has originated in Scotland, England or Europe, we demand full seed inspection reports for disease and pest loadings in the seed field.
After a seed stock has been provisionally selected, a full surface disease inspection is carried out to assess further growing risks. Bacterial disease loadings are also made as standard to complement the full evaluation procedure.
Once confirmed as suitable for our production, we work closely with the supplier and the receiver of the seed to make sure delivery is made promptly and at the appropriate time.
By using GPS systems and collaborating with our growers at field level, we ensure that only the correct amount of seed is supplied for the calculated planted area of each field.
The Nelson County Group enjoys bulk purchasing of seed stocks to ensure competitive market pricing each season.
